High Surf Leads To Cancelled Ocean Swims

The 63rd annual Huntington Beach Pier Swim, and other swims along the Southern California coast, were cancelled today after some massive ocean swells brought gleam to the eyes of surfers and dread to the eyes of open water swim race directors.

With a strong south swell pushing the waves in the 7-10 foot range, the face of some of the larger swells was dangerously large and brushing the bottoms of the local piers.

Due to the high surf advisory in Orange and San Diego counties, the swimmers will take a rain check on the Huntington Beach Pier Swim today.
