The Boston Globe posted a video of Greg O’Connor (41) and Elaine Kornbau Howley (32) who broke the two-way crossing world record in Boston Harbor at the Boston Light Swim.
The dynamic duo completed the 16-mile swim from the beach behind the L Street Bath House to Boston Light in 7 hours 7 minutes to set a new world open water swimming record.
The swimming conditions were ideal with no wind said Howley to the Boston Globe, but it was not easy in the 59°F (15°C) – 62°F (16.6°C) water. “The shivering didn’t go away [after reaching the halfway point]and for the next 2 miles, I was really worried. My thighs were starting to kind of convulse, almost,” said Greg.
After setting her first world record, Howley is going for another one: a 44-mile loop around Long Beach Island in New Jersey.
