Greek Lifesaving Sport Union To Start In 2020

Greek lifesaving luminary Stathis Avramidis, Ph.D. will establish the Greek Lifesaving Sport Union in January 2020, an of his life’s work and passions.

The Paragon Award winner [see above] explains his objectives, “The aim of the Greek Lifesaving Sport Union is twofold: promote water safety and lifesaving sport. It is a not-for-profit organization where everyone can become a member without registration fees.

There are 3 types of memberships include Associate for organizations, Basic for individuals, and Honorary for distinguished individuals who have contributed to the fields of applied lifeguarding, lifesaving sport, and aquatics.”

According to the International Life Saving Federation, “Lifesaving sport primarily encourages lifesavers to develop, maintain and improve the essential physical and mental skills needed to save lives in the aquatic environment. Lifesaving competitions consist of a variety of events to further develop and demonstrate lifesaving skills, fitness, and motivation.

The premier international lifesaving event is the World Championships, also known as the Rescue series, hosted by the International Life Saving Federation at different locations throughout the world every two years.”

At the 2018 World Championships, representatives from Argentina, Hong Kong, China, Egypt, South Africa, Belgium, Canada, Netherlands, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Spain, Germany, Great Britain, Brazil, Portugal, Belgium, Chinese Taipei, India, France, South Korea, USA, Kenya, Norway, Italy, Czech Republic, Austria, Thailand, Iran, Morocco, Singapore, Philippines, Niger, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Switzerland, Denmark, Senegal, Ireland, and Sweden competed – and will soon to be joined by Greece.
