When Petar Stoychev of Bulgaria completed the Oceans Seven on August 14th, he joined a very small, select group of accomplished ice swimmers and channel swimmers.
Only Lynton Mortensen of Australia, Kieron Palframan of South Africa, Bárbara Hernández Huerta of Chile, Paul Georgescu of Romania, and Stoychev has completed the Oceans Grand Slam. The Oceans Grand Slam requires the completion of a Polar Ice Swim and the seven channel crossings of the Oceans Seven.
The Oceans Grand Slam is open water swimming’s equivalent of the Explorers Grand Slam, also known as the Adventurers Grand Slam. The Explorers Grand Slam requires climbing the Seven Summits and reaching the North Pole and South Pole. Only 16 adventurers have achieved the Grand Slam.
