Trying to get a slot for a channel crossing has long been increasingly more difficult and gradually more expensive, but so are lake swims around the world.
Phil White said of In Search of Memphre across Lake Memphremagog between the US state of Vermont and the Canadian province of Quebec, “As of 2024, 63 amateur swimmers have completed 70 crossings of Lake Memphremagog since we began In Search of Memphre in 2011 – see here.“
He further recommends, “19 swimmers and one relay team have already signed up for the 40 km crossing with only four slots are left.
For the 2025 season, Caroline Block, Miranda Wingfield, Anita Hartstock, Carol Wortman, Tom Heyerdahl, John Smirnow, Polly Madding, Mighty Mermaids, Erica Mertz, Amanda Smith Dakowicz, Martha Wood, Steve Gruenwald, Eric Schall, Tracy Knight, Anke Hohne, Natalie Cowart, Justine Brousseau, Shannon House Keegan, Paula Yankauskas, and David Blanke have signed up.
The remaining open slots in 2025 are June 23rd – 25th, July 7th – 9th, August 18th – 20th, and September 8th – 10th.

So, we decided to schedule and open registrations for 10 three-day windows in 2026. Each window is capable of supporting up to 3 solo swimmers or relay teams. We pick the best day of the three in each window. Each swimmer is escorted by his or her own a pontoon boat with two trained and experienced boat pilots. Here are the Windows in 2026:
- Window I: June 15th – 17th 2026
- Window II: June 22nd – 24th 2026
- Window III: June 29th – July 1st 2026
- Window IV: July 6th – 8th 2026
- Window V: July 13th – 15th 2026
