“Diana needs to cut across the Gulf Stream. If she doesn’t get across the Gulf Stream last enough, the currents will push her too far east and away fro Florida,” said chief navigator John Bartlett.
“She is averaging 1.3 knots per hour, but her stoppage time is more than we calculated. The night is going to be a long, tough night because she has spent 24 hours in the water. It is going to be a real challenge.”
She covered 48.5 nautical miles over the first 24 hours but she still has to cover a minimal distance of 103 statute miles from Havana to Key West.[Read More…]
