Three-time American Olympic coach Bob Bowman is best known as the coach of Michael Phelps. But the renowned coach also coaches open water swimmers including a fast, young swimmer named Gillian Ryan.
While Bowman is on a leave from swimming, he will not be far away from the sport. He and 2-time Olympic medalist Thomas Lurz will help conduct a review of the disappointing performance of British swimmers at the 2012 London Olympics.
“We’re sure he will make a massive contribution,” said British Swimming chief executive David Sparkes to the BBC. The review will look into the difference between UK Sport’s target of 5-7 podium finishes and the actual results of 2 bronze medals and 1 silver. Performance director Michael Scott added, “Following our disappointment at not meeting our high expectations we’ll undertake a thorough debrief.”
