Between July and September 2015, business entrepreneur and race director Bridgette Hobart-Janeczko planned and successfully completed an unprecedented series of swims: 9 solo swims across the New York Finger Lakes.
She completed the following stage swims across nine [of 11] Finger Lakes:
Stage 1 – Canandaigua Lake, 15.5 miles in 7 hours 38 minutes
Stage 2 – Keuka Lake, 19.9 miles in 9 hours 7 minutes
Stage 3 – Skaneateles Lake, 16 miles in 7 hours 27 minutes
Stage 4 – Cayuga Lake, 37.9 miles in 20 hours 33 minutes
Stage 5 – Seneca Lake, 37.9 miles in 24 hours 31 minutes
Stage 6 – Honeoye Lake, 4.5 miles in 2 hours 2 minutes
Stage 7 – Conesus Lake, at 8.1 miles in 3 hours 47 minutes
Stage 8 – Otisco Lake, at 6.2 miles in 2 hours 2 minutes
Stage 9 – Owasco Lake, at 11.1 miles in 5 hours 57 minutes
In addition to juggling race directorship with her business responsibilities, Hobart-Janeczko served as a catalyst to bring together the communities of the New York Finger Lakes. This year, she is going even a step further by organizing the inaugural Finger Lakes Open Water Swim Festival.
The two-day festival between September 23rd – 24th offers a 10.5-mile marathon swim (limited to a maximum of 15 swimmers) in addition to 0.5-mile, 1-mile and 2-mile races on Seneca Lake.
The proceeds from the event benefit the Nazareth College Swimming & Diving Team.
