Fernando Betanzos, El Cruce Champion

Fernando Augusto Betanzos Rodriguez is a 24-year-old swimmer from Mexico who has been swimming in the seas since the age of 4.

One of the top open water swimmers in Mexico, Betanzos has world-class open water swimming pedigree. His father is one of the long-time Mexican officials, administrators and race directors in Puerto Morelos, Quintana Roo where the Maratón Acuático Ruta del Arrecife, the FINA Open Water Swimming Grand Prix, the FINA 10K Marathon Swimming World Cup, Por La Libre, the Maratón de Aguas Abiertas de Bacalar, and several other sea swims are held.

Betanzos won the 2016 Por La Libre Cancún to Isla Mujeres (El Cruce) in Cancún, Mexico in 1 hour 57 minutes.
