Sian Richardson (@sian_richardson_pencarnan), founder of Bluetits Chill Swimmers (@thebluetits), answered some questions about her ongoing Summer Dipathon that can be held anywhere anytime between June 30th and August 30th (registration is here).
The Bluetits Summer Dipathon challenge is held in collaboration with Centrepoint, UK’s leading youth homelessness charity. Alongside their partners, they support over 15,000 young people every year and campaign to end youth homelessness by 2037.
Richardson explains, “Participants do not need to fundraise. They can enter and just have fun helping us reach the community target of 124,000 dips. We would love if you did fundraise £100, but every £1 helps. If you set a goal and don’t reach it, that is okay too, we don’t expect you to top it up yourself. You can set up fundraisers here. You can set up as an individual or join a team. Even if you are joining a team, it will ask you to set up an individual page. Check with your flock to see if there is a team before you sign up.
You can also sponsor a team, but you will have to pick one of the individuals on the team to donate to (register a team here).
You can track the number of your dips here.”

Dipping
A dip is an immersion of any length or duration into an open body of water as opposed to an open water swim. It can include briefly wading into or jumping into any open body of water without taking any swimming arm strokes or leg kicks.
A Conversation with Sian Richardson
Months ago, I had an intriguing, educational, and inspirational conversation with Richardson and Tim Denyer, co-founder of Red Top Swim (@redtopperformance) on a wide variety of topics. Both Sian and Tim are such treasures of the open water swimming community – from different angles and perspectives. We talked about newbies just getting started in the open water to Mark Sowerby in the new biopic film called Don’t Be Prey.
