Eilat, A Safe Haven For Open Water Swimming

Although there was a terrorist attack on the Israel-Egypt border 15K northwest of Eilat, the race organizers of the European Open Water Swimming Championships emphasized that “the city of Eilat is, and always will be, a haven for tourism and open water swimming due to its climate and calm 24-25°C seas throughout the year. Israel’s Yoni Bar Eli who is planning to compete at the 25K race, swam the course and summarized his experience, “This is the first time I am competing in a 25K swim. I am pleased with my training [in Eilat] – the water was great and the course was very interesting. I swam 2 laps of 12.5K passing alongside a reef and it was very exciting to see the dolphins greeting me.”
