Dennis Vanderheiden and Dave Sheanin pulled their weight and more at the local Solstice Swim in Longmont, Colorado.
5,000 feet (1,524m) in altitude and among 129 swimmers, Vanderheiden and Sheanin were the Athletes in Tandem who participated together with Zachery Scott and P.J. Snyder respectively. As Vanderheiden pulled Scott and Sheanin pulled Snyder in RIBs, the quartet was able to enjoy the 77°F water along the 2.4-mile course in the reservoir.
Race director Geoff Hawksworth said, “We will have Athletes in Tandem at our next Mountain Swim Series event this weekend, Carter Lake Crossing – 3-mile End-to-End. Online registration closes July 8th. We’re aiming for 200 participants and looking good for reaching that goal.”
Athletes in Tandem is a non-profit organization that partners athletes with other athletes who have a disability in order to enhance the quality of their lives by racing together in running, biking, open water swimming and triathlon events.
