David Blaine & Penny Palfrey – Smiling & Swimming With Sharks

After interviewing thousands of swimmers on five continents, it is rare to find athletes who are completely calm and confident while swimming with Great White Sharks.
Many swimmers say they enjoy swimming with sharks, many say they will punch an aggressive shark, but in that moment when facing a shark eye-to-eye, everyone’s reaction is different. Magician and endurance athlete David Blaine from New York and Australian marathon swimmer Penny Palfrey are two of those rare athletes.
“You have to remain calm,” explained David. “Because they can sense your fear.”
In Jose Diaz’s fascinating interview with Penny, Penny gives her perspective, “I could still see the bottom but cruising right below me was a Great White Shark. I looked, instinctively took my regular breath, then looked back again, yes it was a shark, yes it was a Great White Shark. It was majestic. I was in awe of this huge, graceful creature beneath.”
