Daunting Double, Taxing Triple At The Rio Olympics

Courtesy of WOWSA, Huntington Beach, California.

Two swimmers are going to swim more than anyone else in Rio at the 2016 Olympic Games: Oussama Mellouli (TUN) and
Jordan Wilimovsky (USA).

Sawrymowicz, Mellouli and Wilimovsky are entered in the 1500m and the 10 km marathon swim. They are all capable of qualifying in the 1500m race; and so may swim a total of 13,000 meters in Rio.

Mellouli is seeded with a 15:13.87 in the 1500m, and Wilimovsky is seeded with a 14:49.19.

They are scheduled to swim the preliminary heats of the 1500m on August 12th, the final heat of the 1500m on August 13th, and the 10 km race on August 16th.

On the women’s side, Eva Risztov (HUN) and Sharon van Rouwendaal (NED) are swimming both the women’s 800m freestyle in the pool and the 10 km marathon swim in the ocean. But Rouwendaal is also competing in the 400m freestyle and so has the potential to swim a total of 12,400 meters (400 + 400 + 800 + 800 + 10,000).

Rouwendaal is scheduled to race the preliminary heats and finals of the 400m on August 7th (with a seeded time of 4:03.02), the preliminary heat of the 800m on August 11th (with a seeded time of 8:24.12), the finals of the 800m on August 12th, and the 10 km race on August 15th. That is quite a tough Olympic schedule.
