Damián Blaum Talks About Racing Around The World On WOWSA Live

38-year-old International Marathon Swimming Hall of Famer Damián Blaum of Argentina has enjoyed and endured one of the most prolific careers on the professional marathon swimming circuit.
Blaum talked about many of his global adventures and professional races over his long career with International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame chairman Ned Denison on today’s edition of WOWSA Live. Blaum reminisced about some of the following competitions and swims:
* competing in the 2008 Beijing Olympics, arriving 2 weeks in Beijing before the inaugural Olympic 10K Marathon Swim while living side-by-side with famous tennis and NBA basketball stars
* learning about the importance of mental preparation while watching Stéphane Lecat race in 1996 as a 15-year-old
* drinking sea water in his first marathon swim at the 1999 35 km Teracina Marathon on the FINA Open Water Swimming Grand Prix while racing against legends like France’s Lecat and Bulgaria’s Petar Stoychev
* staying with Argentine friends and taking the subway to all the open water races during the 2003 FINA World Championships in Barcelona where he placed 10th in 5 km racing with Simone Ercoli, and finished 8th in the 10 km, and raced 17.5 km togther with the top 5 finally finishing 14th in the 25 km
* winning the 2013 FINA Open Water Swimming Grand Prix after 14 years on the professional circuit
* racing and winning the 57 km Maratón Acuática Internacional Santa Fe – Coronda after 6 podium finishes
* winning the 36 km Maratona del Golfo Capri-Napoli in 2010 while beating Australian star Brendan Capell
* crossing paths with Esther Nuñez Morera in 2003, and then finally getting to know in 2005, and then inviting his future wife in 2006 to high-altitude training where she survived and went onto win two professional marathon races
* making all the details of his preparation from nutrition to recovery better
* attempting a border crossing between Uruguay and Argentina – two times within two days – while swimming across the Río de la Plata, the widest river in the world, with the Asociación Cruce a Nado Río de la Plata in 9 hours 6 minutes [see below].
