Fazlul Kabir of Extreme Bangla and Shwaroz Adventure co-organize the 2018 International Bangla Channel Marathon Swim, a 16.1 km race across the Bangla Channel in the Bay of Bengal in Bangladesh.

The race is held on March 19th and stretches from Teknaf on the Bangladesh mainland to St. Martin’s Island.

The course is called The Bangla Channel that serves as a charity event for the Centre for Injury Prevention and Research in Bangladesh,” explains Kabir.

In 2012, English Channel and North Channel swimmer Milko van Gool from the Netherlands took part on the same course, but swam both ways in an unprecedented attempt [see above].

The late Hamidul Haque, an underwater photographer and scuba diver, was the creator of the Bangla Channel route (middle of photo below).

The first team who crossed the channel included Lipton Sarker, Fazlul Kabir Sina and Salman Saeed (shown left to right above) on January 14th 2006.
