Colin Hill never fails to surprise and impress.

Hill has a remarkable track record of bringing people together. Initially at the Great North Swim attracted tens of thousands of newcomers and veterans to the shores of Windermere, and later at the Great Scottish Swim, Great London Swim and Great East Swim, Hill then moved legions of volunteers to pull off the most viewed open water swim at the Olympics, the 10 km marathon swim in the Serpentine.

Most recently, he entered the winter swimming community and brought together the International Winter Swimming Association and the International Ice Swimming Association to jointly sanction the Big Chill Swim in Windermere.

The world’s two major cold water swimming organizations agreed to come together and provided their expertise in their own separate spheres: the International Winter Swimming Association sanctioned the 30m, 60m and 450m races on Day One and the International Ice Swimming Association sanctioned the 1 km British Championships on Day Two.

This harmony among these governing bodies is greatly appreciated by the athletes, officials and sponsors – and perfectly fits in with the interests of the enthusiasts of the sport.
