A group is ordered to link arms and lay down on their backs with their heads and bodies partially submerged in the cold surf, raising their heads to breathe between waves.
In the Pacific Ocean in Coronado, California, the water can often be between 54-58°F (12-14°C). While cold water swimmers may think 54-58°F water is not cold, during so while just laying down in the surf with a fatigued body is excruciating for most people.
The USA Olympic Water Polo team did a day of training with the Navy SEALs. This is what they did over the course of 3+ hours:
