Colm O’Neill Inducted In Hall of Fame – Marathon Swimming Ireland

Colm O’Neill was among a number of Irish luminaries to be voted into the Hall of Fame – Marathon Swimming Ireland in its Class of 2020.

O’Neill joined Conor Gunn, Owen O’Keefe, Fergal Somerville, Frances Thornton Memorial Galway Bay Swim, and Imelda Lynch in the Hall of Fame – Marathon Swimming Ireland.

The newest members joined the Class of 2019 (Anne-Marie Ward, Grainne Gunn, Ion Lazarenco Tiron, Ned Denison, Stephen Millar, Sandycove Island Swimmers) and Class of 2018 (Chris Bryan, Lisa Cummins, Kieran Fitzgerald, Jack McClelland, Deirdre Ward, Eilís Burns, Martin Cullen, Brian Meharg, and Quinton Nelson).

O’Neill was the second swimmer from Ireland to complete crossings of both the 33.5 km English Channel (11 hours 42 minutes) and 35 km North Channel (11 hours 25 minutes). He was the 8th swimmer to complete the North Channel crossing and the second swimmer from Ireland to complete both the English and North Channels. He swam 45.9 km around Manhattan Island (7 hours 55 minutes) in 2008 and has held the 12 km Cleggan to Inishbofin speed record since 2001. He was part of The Swim relay across the Irish Sea in 2011.
