Craig Taylor and Scott Zornig are turning back the clock to 2001. The pair did a stage swim along the entire 40-mile coast of Orange County in Southern California.
The pair are now gathering dozens of others to take upon the 11-day OC Coast To Coast Boast this summer. “[The first stage swim] took us most of the summer. We had a blast. Several people joined in on various segments. Lynn Kubasek swam with us. We never could figure out the currents so we usually guessed. On some days we would swim south and then the next day we would go north. Our goal was just to finish the 40 miles and we did not care about going in a single direction for the entire swim.”
The informal challenge is an 11-day 40.99-mile (65.9 km) stage swim conducted on all weekend days, throughout the summer. The field swims in pods, each with a floating safety buoy and never farther than 4 miles out from shore at any time.
All swims start at 7 am as the stage swim heads from the northern border to the southern border of Orange County.
