The Hong Kong Amateur Swimming Association announced its plans to revive the Cross-Harbour Swim in 2011 after a hiatus of more than 30 years for all the right reasons.
Because the water quality in Victoria Harbour has improved in recent years, the race will be revived after it was halted in 1978.
Hong Kong’s famous Cross-Harbour swimming race had been held for over 60 years between 1912 and 1978 before concerns over heavy pollution led to its cancellation. But it will return next year because of impressive results to improve water quality in Victoria Harbour.
The Hong Kong Amateur Swimming Association also reportedly plans to launch a bid to host the 2015 FINA World Swimming championships in part to better develop the sport in Hong Kong and nurture more local talent.
