Swimming one or two miles in the ocean, for experienced open water swimmers, is not really that big of a deal.
But ocean swimming is a big deal if you are a canine swimmer like Charlie, a golden retriever and member of the Catalina Island Swim Club on Catalina Island in Southern California.
Among the various events that the Catalina Island Swim Club hosts and organizes include:
- The Polar Bear Swim & Plunge, a free one-mile swim in Avalon on January 1st. For more information, visit here
- Morning ocean swims at Casino Point Dive Park in Avalon at 7:00 am Weekdays + 7:30 am weekends & holidays
- 2.2-mile Benefit Swim for Pancreatic Cancer Research
The waters off of Avalon and the entire coastline around Catalina Island are clear and full of wonderfully colorful marine life and kelp beds.
