Bruckner Chase, Open Water’s Weather Man

Bruckner Chase, a long-time ocean swimmer and ocean advocate from Ocean City, New Jersey, now regularly appears on The Weather Channel to report on ocean-related conditions and safety measures that any beach goer can take.

The Weather Channel offers live 24/7 weather alerts and updates, local forecasts, climate news, on-demand shows, radar, maps and much more.

Chase is also branching out into other kinds of media.

Most recently, his 39-minute podcast on The Weather Geeks (@WeatherGeeks) covered his mindset as an Ocean Geek, discussions about rip currents and overall ocean safety, and NOAA’s Wave Safe program that Chase originally envisioned. Chase talks about sneaker waves, respect for the ocean, changes in the shape of the beaches, coastal safety initiatives in Amerika Samoa.

The Weather Geeks host, Dr. J. Marshall Shepherd, is a leading weather and climate expert and a Professor of Geography and Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Georgia.  Dr. Shepherd joined the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center where he served first as a research meteorologist and later as the Deputy Project Scientist for the Global Precipitation Measurement mission.

Listen to their fascinating conversation here.

The Chase podcast kicks off explaining NOAA’s initiative called Wave Safe that is aimed at reshaping the conversation around rip currents and ocean safety.

Wave Safe is an ocean and beach educational safety series produced and filmed by National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. It is a series of educational short videos to inform and protect coastal communities and educational documentaries to inform and protect coastal communities.
