The pace could not have been faster over the last 1 km, but it was Becca Mann who came out on top as she touched out Haley Anderson to win the 2015 USA Swimming Open Water National Championships.

Ashley Twichell and Emily Brunemann followed in third and fourth respectively.

She talks about her strategy. “That was not my strategy. I wanted to stay in the top pack for the first 2 loops. But I was trying to keep up on my own.

I was not trying to think about it. I just tried to go. I was pretty happy as it turns out. I had a little let to go. Around the last turn buoy, I had a little bit left. I am super excited. I always like Worlds [Championships]. I am already there for the pool team, so I will be at there [at the 2015 World Championships in Kazan, Russia] for about a month.”
