Bárbara Hernández Huerta, La Sirena De Hielo

Jalāl ad-Dīn Muhammad Rūmī – also known as Rumi – was a 13th-century Persian poet, jurist, Islamic scholar, theologian and Sufi mystic. He once said, “…what strikes the oyster shell does not damage the pearl.”

His quote reminds us of the cold water swimming exploits of Bárbara Hernández Huerta, known in Spanish as la Sirena de Hielo.

Hernández was named as one of the World’s 50 Most Adventurous Open Water Women and medaled at the Winter World Swimming Championships in Tyumen, Russia. One of her specialities and joys is ice calving swimming near several glaciers in her native Chile.
