Australian Sweep At The Waikiki Roughwater Swim

Throw in some rough water, add a mass start and it is bound to have Australian swimmers – both male and female – come out on top. The Australian swimmers have been quite dominant recently in Hawaii and this year’s Waikiki Roughwater Swim Swim was no different. The entire race was streamed live by liveswim.net and posted at Open Water Source.

George O’Brien led fellow Aussies Codie Grimsey and Trent Grimsey for an Australian sweep on the men’ side as the trio just laid down a great course at a blistering pace. The trio was seen in the lead throughout the race and really picked up momentum as they came into the finish around the last turn buoy. Alex Studzinki and Rhyz Mainstone rounded out the top five On the women’s side, the Australian women were similarly dominant with Luane Rowe (Australia) in first, Shelley Clark (Australia) in second and Zoe Elkerton (Australia) in third with Rachel Knowels (USA) in fourth as the highest American finisher, Cynthia Lewis (USA) was fifth.
