Arena is continuing its sponsorship of the fastest open water swimming mother in the world Angela Maurer of Germany.
The 35-year-old who was fourth in the 10K at the 2008 Beijing Olympics is committed to Arena through the 2012 London Olympics.
In her second decade of racing against the world’s elites, she won a bronze medal in the 25K at the 2000 World Open Water Championships in Honolulu, has consistently placed high in the FINA 10K Marathon Swimming World Cup, won a bronze in the 2001 World 25K Championships in Japan a silver in the 25K and a bronze in the 10K at the 2002 World Open Water Swimming Championships in Egypt, a silver in the 10K and a bronze in the 25K at the 2003 World Championships in Barcelona with a silver in the 10km and a bronze in the 25km, a gold medal in the 25K at the 2006 World Open Water Swimming Championships in Italy, won the 2007 and 2008 FINA 10K Marathon Swimming World Cup series, a gold medal in the 25K in the 2009 World Championships in Italy and was second overall in the 2010 FINA 10K Marathon Swimming World Cup series.
It was only in 2004 and 2005 when she took time off to give birth to her son Maxim – fathered by coach-husband Nikolai Evseev – where she missed the podium in international competitions during the 21st century. Every other year, Angela trains 3,200-3,500K a year balancing her swimming schedule with motherhood and her job as a police inspector candidate.
Extraordinary – there is simply no other way to describe Angela for being able to compete at such an elite level while doing so much.
