If you are a Super Swimmer, there is a deal for you down in Cape Town, South Africa.
The Cadiz Freedom Swim, one of the world’s top swims, is not only offering US$10,000 for the overall winner of its 7.5K race from Robben Island to the mainland that offers a challenging swim in cold and rough water, but it is also offering six packages are available to super swimmers, as defined below (to a maximum of R15,000 or US$2,000).
The Cadiz package includes the following:
1. An economy airfare (R11,000 maximum) from the athlete’s nearest main airport to Cape Town, South Africa
2. Local accommodation at a local Bed & Breakfast or guest house with a private room for three nights
3. Breakfast
4. Entry fees and tickets to the awards dinner and all other activities open to all participants
5. A support vessel for the race
6. Ground transportation to and from the airport and to and from the race
What is the catch? A Super Swimmer is defined as an athlete who has
Qualifying for a Super Swimmer package (swimmer obliged to provide proof)
1. Must have qualified for the Cadiz Freedom Swim as per the rules and regulations, and
2. Placed in the top 20 in the 5K, 10K or 25K race at a FINA World Swimming Championships, or
3. Placed in the top 10 at a FINA 10K Marathon Swimming World Cup or FINA Open Water Swimming Grand Prix race, or
4. Won one of the world’s top open water swims, or
5. Are a known extreme swimmer with a known track record and proof of extreme swims.
The Cadiz Freedom Swim Committee reserves the right to approve or decline any application at its own discretion. Successful package applicants will receive a contract detailing their achievements and their obligation to attend and complete the swim. Failing to do so will require a full package refund.
