Andy Akinwolere, the presenter of Blue Peter, the world’s longest-running children’s television show, is heading to the ocean deep.

In June, Akinwolere will attempt to became the first person to complete an open water swim across the surface of Challenger Deep, the deepest stretch of ocean on Earth, as part of the BBC television programme Blue Peter.

For my Big Splash challenge, I am attempting to swim a humongous 8 km (or 320 lengths of a normal swimming pool) across Challenger Deep within the epic Mariana Trench, the deepest part of the world’s ocean. Scary times.”

Details of his attempt are here and here.
