
The heavyweights of the ice swimming world visited Oradea, Romania for the IISA 1st European Championship and none other than the English Channel record holder Andreas Waschburger of Germany kicked off Day 1 with a remarkable world record time of 5:32.72 in the 500m freestyle final.
The 36-year-old Olympian was pushed by Polish swimmer Marcin Szarpak of Poland who finished second in 5:35.77 and Axel Reymond of France who finished third in 5:55.80 in the 3.9°C water. They both broke the existing world record set by Radostin Krastev of Bulgaria of 5:36.49.
