André Wiersig, a 43-year-old German ice swimmer, is a member of the International Ice Swimming Association.
But he also delved much further, longer and warmer when he stepped off the shore on Molokai Island and headed toward the island of Oahu in Hawaii. Along the way, he encountered waves, wind, bioluminescence, whales, and squid.
18 hours 26 minutes later, he finished on Sandy Beach on Oahu and later created the video above to help share his adventure.
His escort pilot was Mike Twigg-Smith, his observer/kayaker was Jeff Kozlovich, his kayaker was Marcos Robaina, and his crew included Jürgen Peters and Guido Schneider.
