Amy Swims East To Do North

Californian Amy Appelhans Gubser has been on a tear over the last few years – swimming the Farallon Islands (relay), across the Strait of Gibraltar, in Lake Tahoe, across the Catalina Channel, 4 stages of the S.C.A.R. Swim Challenge (twice), across the Santa Barbara Channel, the Border Buster in Lake Memphremagog, in Monterey Bay, in Santa Monica Bay and as of today, across the North Channel.

The 50-year-old nurse’s swim was a textbook crossing, swimming west to east starting in Northern Ireland and landing in Scotland in 14 hours 10 minutes.

She announced on Facebook, “It was a grind, but it is over. I really enjoyed. The water temperature was good. Most importantly, I would like to thank Infinity crew – they are class: Sarah O’Malley Daly, Patrick O’Malley Daly, Greg Gubser, and Cillian Meehan. [They] were the most amazing support – swimming and feeding me…and boat captain Richard kept me on a great course.”
