A Look Back In Open Water Swimming Time

Back in 1999, Peggy Büchse appeared in a German TV documentary called Marathon – Peggy Büchse im Rio Parana.

She is now enshrined in open water swimming perpetuity in the new International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame website where over 200 other individuals and organizations are recognized.

Peggy was very successful on the professional marathon swimming circuit (winning the 1997, 1998 and 1999 women’s Atlantic City Around-the-Island Marathon Swims. She also won a gold medal in the 10K race and a silver in the 5K race at the 2001 World Swimming Championships in Fukuoka, Japan and the gold in the 5K race at the 2000 World Open Water Swimming Championships in Honolulu.

If any readers know of an unprecedented swim or accomplished swimmer who has not yet been recognized or archived by the International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame, let us know and we’ll help rectify the situation.
