The Milk & Co Queensland Ocean Swim Series had close to 2,500 swimmers participate in its races during the 2013 season.

Ellie Gleeson explains her reasons why ocean swimming is Australia’s new “it” sport:

There is no fancy equipment. Complicated road bike? Expensive running shoes? High-tech designer gym wear? Terrifying cardio machines? Not a scrap of that in sight.

All you need are your Speedos and a pair of goggles and you’re set. Simple. And as they say, it’s the simple things in life that are the best.
