One of his sayings is “Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard.”
Alan Bircher lived up to that motto during his open water swimming career, even though he arguably also possessed a lot of world-class talent.
As a 10-time British open water champion and FINA World Cup medalist, Bircher was known for his boldness willing to push his body to seemingly impossible heights.
He trained with his future wife, Stefanie Biller who he later coached and married. Stefanie gave birth today to their daughter Poppy. Alan writes, “I have the most amazing wife Stefanie Bircher. Your an absolute star and mean the world to me. As does our new addition 7lbs 13oz Poppy Bircher.”
