Lewis Pugh completed a solo swim from Dassen Island to Ysterfontein on the mainland of South Africa in 2 hours 35 minutes in 1993.

25 years later, Jean Craven, Emil Berning and Kieron Palframan completed a Madswimmer tandem two-way charity crossing to Dassen Island in 6 hours 6 minutes in May last year in 13°C water, called the Dassen Island Challenge.
