A high-altitude swimming tradition in the cold continued on its third decade.
Gar Woods Grill & Pier hosted the 30th Annual Coolest and Largest Shrinkage Event, the high-altitude swim known as the Gar Woods Polar Bear Swim on March 3rd following the Tahoe City Parade of North Lake Tahoe SnowFest.
“It was a COLD one this year,” reported Kimberly Moore. “We received FEET of snow each day for about three days leading up to the Polar Bear Swim. In fact, I think many people did not show this year due to road conditions getting to Lake Tahoe. Due to the weather, we had a low turnout of participants, but we still had a lot of fun and plenty of people to watch.
There were only five women this year…Katie Arnst and Megan Thompson were our two swimmers that didn’t quite make it back to the finish line before being picked up by our jet ski safety crew.
We only had three men this year and all of them made it to the finish line.”
Women’s Results:
1. Genevieve Evans
2. Sue Morganti
3. Katie Sparks
Men’s Results:
1. John Donovan
2. Julien Leecorps
3. Dan Boyle
