There is one constant on the FINA professional marathon swimming circuit: change.

Races come and races go as the number and locations of the events change from year to year. 2019 will continue that trend.

The 21st Maratón Acuática Internacional Ciudad de Rosario in Argentina will serve as the second leg of the six-race 2019 FINA UltraMarathon Swim Series.

The 15 km event – a race around a 2.15 km loop – will return to the FINA professional marathon swimming circuit for the first time since 2014 and will be held on February 9th. The same course will be used in March during the Juegos Suramericanos de Playa (South American Beach Games).

Two of the six FINA UltraMarathon Swim Series around the world are being held in the province of Santa Fe, Argentina.

Swimmers from the province who achieve the highest placing in the 57 km Maratón Acuática Internacional Santa Fe – Coronda and the Maratón Acuática Internacional Ciudad de Rosario, as we have been doing for several years, will receive the support of the provincial government so they can compete on the rest of the FINA UltraMarathon Swim Series circuit.”

Cristián Fredes explained the course, “The start will be at the Balneario La Florida where swimmers must swim 7 loops in a 2,150m circuit in the 15 km race required by FINA as the minimum distance of the FINA UltraMarathon Swim Series circuit.

Registration closes next Monday with Italian, Argentine, Brazilian, Macedonian, Bulgaria, Ecuadorian and Venezuelan, among others, expected to compete.”
