Nejib Belhedi completed a nearly 3 km swim in 2.5°C water in Tunisia’s Oued Mallegue Dam Lake. It was the first stage of a series of cold water swims he is planning this year as the first step in organizing an international cold water swimming series.

He explains, “I will continue to cross Tunisia’s icy lakes dams this winter, putting the first pillar of winter sports within Tunisia. I want to explore different courses that can also be swum by swimmers around the world in Tunisia’s different dam lakes.
We will organize the first Winter Tour of Icy Swimming in Tunisian dams between 2018 and 2019.

The circuit will be held from Sidi Barrak Dam to the Corbeille of Nafta. It will include Barbara, Oued Mallegue, Sidi Salem, Sidi Saad, Jedliane Kasserine and end in the relaxing warm lake of Ksar Ghilane. The swims will also be jointly held with local Ouma programs where we will teach swimming to the children of the local areas. And the Winter Tour is supported by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Ministry of Tourism, the Ministry of Agriculture, Auberge du Lac Oued Mallegue, the General Director of Dams, the governorates and the delegations of the Dams regions.

France 24 TV and El Mouradi Hammam Bourguiba are supportive of the cold water swimming initiative as are the Tunisian Armed Forces, the National Guard, and the Security Forces.
