The 2016 United States Masters Swimming National Coaches Clinic will be held November 11th – 13h in San Mateo, California.
The 3-day weekend clinic is specifically tailored for masters swimming coaches and will cover open water, team building, turns, dryland, and stroke technique.
Ron Marcikic will talk about team building. Cokie Lepinski will talk about turns. Dr. John Mullen will talk about injury prevention and dryland training. Olympian Sheila Taormina will talk about freestyle technique and give a pool clinic. Laura Hamel and Cokie Lepinski will give a writing workshop for coaches.
Steven Munatones will kick-start the clinic with a 3-hour session on open water swimming, separated into 3 sessions:
Section 1 (primarily for enthusiasts): Explanation of the previous 100 years of the sport and predictions for the next 100 years of open water swimming, from the Olympics to ice swimming.
Section 2 (primarily for athletes): Explanation and discussion of the Pyramid of Open Water Swimming Success, 7 key steps to swimming well in the open water races and solo swims.
Section 3 (primarily for race directors and kayakers): Explanation and discussion of the ideal open water race from the perspective of event organizers and volunteers.
Each section followed by a question-and-answer period.
