In and out of the surf, in and out of the cold, in and out of the marine elements.

That is what is expected and what is experienced during the Xtreme Swim Series in the Eastern Cape province in South Africa.

The next event on the Xteme Swim Series will be held at Marina Martinique. The first event was held in Germiston Lake in Johannesburg on February 28th. The second event will be held in Marina Martinique in Jeffreys Bay on March 21st. The third and final event will be held at the Durban Ski Boat Club in Durban on March 28th.

There are 4 events held at each location:

*12 miles in 12 hours for soloists and relay members (duo and trio)
*6 miles in 12 hours for soloists
*2 miles in standard format
*1 mile in standard format

In the 12 miles in 12 hours event (called the 12-mile challenge), the soloists swim a mile on the hour every hour for 12 hours. The 12-mile challenge also includes a 2-person duo relay where each member must swim 3 consecutive miles before alternating with their teammate, and a 3-person trio relay where each member must swim 2 consecutive miles before alternating with their teammate.

In the 6 miles in 12 hours event, soloists swim every alternate mile of the 12-mile challenge.

There are also a 1-mile and 2-mile standard solo races in the series at each stop.
