On August 22nd, one of the world’s top 100 open water swims, the Damme–Brugge Open Water Swim, celebrated its 100th swim this year.
Held in the freshwater Canal Hoeke – Sluis in Belgium, the race is a 5 km straight-line course from Damme to Brugge where athletes can swim either freestyle or breaststroke. The event utilizes a wave start that separates the different strokes and speed of swimmers, along includes a 4.5K swim for recreational participants.
