When we look out upon the vast world of open water swimming, there are certain athletes with the inner drive, full-on commitment, physical talent, and personality to make a mark in the sport.
Xavier Desharnais of Canada, a professional marathon swimmer, is one of those athletes. He competes on both the FINA Open Water Swimming Grand Prix and the FINA 10K Marathon Swimming World Cup pro circuit and has been improving year by year.
He finished second at the 2012 and 2013 Traversée Internationale du Lac Memphrémagog, the closest race to his home in Sherbrooke, Quebec, but standing on top of the podium is a distinct possibility in the not-too-distant future.
