Aisling Beacom from Wicklow Town is one of 126 athletes who will represent Ireland at the 2011 Special Olympics World Summer Games.
Aisling will participate in the aquatics competition and is currently busy training and preparing for the Games.
This isn’t the first time that Aisling has represented Ireland on the international stage. Through Special Olympics Ireland’s Athlete Leadership Programme she visited the United Nations. She also developed a unique fundraising event for Special Olympics Eastern Region in the form of the RCP Tiburon Mile Open Sea Swim, in San Francisco which she has participated in twice. She also volunteered at the 2007 Special Olympics World Summer Games in China.
Before Special Olympics Aisling’s life was not as busy as it is now. She is involved in so many aspects of Special Olympics now and she loves it, as it means that she always has something to do.
When Aisling isn’t busy with her Special Olympics activities she likes listening to music and watching Home and Away – her favourite television programme.
126 athletes will represent Ireland at the 2011 Special Olympics World Summer Games in Athens, Greece. They will be accompanied by 49 coaches as well as a huge number of family members and supporters.
