“Swim to America,” joked one of the coaches to his swimmer.
The start of the 34 km Traversée Internationale du Lac Memphrémagog, a professional and amateur swimming extravaganza in Canada, is in Magog in the province of Québec. The swimmers swim nearly down the middle of the lake to a turnaround point 16 km off in the distance near the Canadian-U.S.A. border that runs near the middle of the lake.
