Lewis Pugh has completed swims in all Five Oceans. His take on the personality of each one is fascinating:
“Oceans are a bit like people. Every ocean is different, and to me they have distinct personalities. The Arctic Ocean is the black ocean – literally like an inkpot. You put your arm in and your hand just disappears. The Pacific Ocean is a rich, royal blue. The Indian Ocean is the most benevolent; it’s warm and kind and turquoise. The Atlantic Ocean can be rough and cold.”
