Arguably and often quite convincingly, the world’s most iconic ocean waterman race is the Coates Hire Coolangatta Gold event.

The 33.6 km (short course) and 41.8 km (long course) event happens this weekend on Australia’s Gold Coast. The multi-disciplinary course combines ocean swimming, beach running, board paddling and surf skiing and its thoroughly relentless.

“The 41.8 km demands the utmost in ocean awareness, technical skill, raw strength, marathon-worthy endurance, and the essential sense of community,” said visiting American competitor Bruckner Chase. “The finish line is going to be the starting line for some incredible new growth in what we do for the oceans and our communities with new partners and friends here.”
