There are numerous people in the open water swimming world who are just off-the-charts crazy smart: Dr. Peter Attia, Dr. George Tidmarsh, Dr. Angel Yanagihara, Dr. Edith van Dijk, and many others.

Among those swimmers with an incredibly high IQ is Ted Erikson.

Erikson, a chemist and International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame Honour Swimmer, was selected to receive the prestigious alumni medal from his alma mater, the Illinois Institute of Technology. He is the 48th person honored during the 125-year history of the university.

Erikson will be honored on April 29th at the IIT Alumni Medal ceremony. True to his nature, he suggested organizing a short swim in Lake Michigan before or after the ceremonies if enough swimmers attend.
