The ninth annual 8 Bridges Hudson River Swim began this morning.

Stage 1 of the 7 stages is called The Islands, 29.4 km along a narrow, peaceful, and rural part of the Hudson River from the Rip Van Winkle Bridge to the Kingston Rhinecliff Bridge.

Two of the swimmers – John Batchelder and Andrew Wells – have a lot more on their minds; they are planning to swim all 7 stages of the 193 km swim.  Follow the race and all its participants here.

The Islands Start List:
* John Batchelder, Colorado
* Lauren Byron, New Jersey
* Jim Chiudioni, Massachusetts
* Joseph Kaufman, New York
