Swimming in Somabay, Elite in Egypt – Domenico Acerenza Leads an Italian Sweep

Spread the love

It was an Italian affair in beautifully breezy Somabay in Egypt, site of the first stage of the 2024 World Aquatic Open Water Swimming World Cup series that was held yesterday.

Under rough water, constantly choppy conditions in turquoise blue 21°C water, the race was close throughout the six-lap course.

But eventual winner Domenico Acerenza said, The water was very choppy and the wind was very hard, but we are open water swimmers, we know how to handle this condition very well.”

How true his words were – especially for him and his Italian teammates.

Acerenza outswam Olympian and fellow Italian rival Gregorio Paltrinieri in second and Dario Verani who finished third.
